First things first. What the heck is a dromomaniac???!! I am sure you must be wondering. A dromomaniac is a person with an uncontrollable, psychological urge to wander. It is because of this mania that I decided to start this blog. To document my journey and love of travel and the experiences travel exposes to you. I want your inner wanderer to come out and I want my posts to incite in you a passion for the wonderful, natural, gritty, sometimes scary world we live in. It is my hope that through my blog I can show you things that you may not know are out there and how you too can have those experiences. And possibly how to not do what I did, as there were several situations where I blatantly disregarded the rules. This includes one encounter with a grizzly bear, where I just ran away and left my boyfriend behind….don’t run from a bear. It’s just not a smart thing to do. Just saying.

Because I am a veterinarian there is naturally going to be posts on wildlife and nature but there will also be posts on humanity, good food, art and probably a few historical tidbits (but don’t worry it will be in a fun, upbeat kind of way). I will help you learn about these places by doing as the locals do, not on an all expenses paid, shopping and spa weekend in some 5 star hotel that no one living in the real world can afford. If that’s what you are looking for in a blog, you are on the wrong one my friend. This blog is about that childlike joy you get when you travel somewhere and do something that just brings you indescribable bliss and a complete sense of peace and happiness. When you describe the details about your travels it brings that serene look on your face and sweetness in your heart, almost like falling in love with a place all over again. I will also be including a monthly interview of someone elses travels, so it’s not just all me all the time. I want to open your eyes to all the possibilities and perspectives, not just mine. It is my hope that this blog will guide you in your own adventure. As these interviews grow in number they will be found under their own page labeled “Travel with Friends.”

On my “Places I have been” page you can find a list of all the places I have been and have plans to write about, but there is still so much more out there to explore. I have a very long travel wish list but some of the trips I have coming up include a yoga/hiking retreat at an Ashram in the Catskills mountains of New York, a trip to Utah on a whirlwind hiking tour of the Mighty 5 (I will explain what those are in a future post, in case you have never heard of them) and a trip to Greece, where I hope to sail between the islands and get to know the locals while taking in the beauty and history that Greece has to offer (not to mention the food and wine!).

So sit back, relax, and come wander with me.

  1. I love your “don’t run from a bear” suggestion. Once when hiking up mountain in Nicaragua, I encountered a monkey (at the time it seemed like a gorilla or an ape) and basically threw my friend in front of me and ran away. My friend was not pleased.
I can’t wait to see where your adventures take you!

    • It’s funny what can happen when our “fight or flight” kicks in. We laugh about the encounter now but it wasn’t that funny at the time. Thanks for following along!
