Do you know someone who loves to travel to new places? Prefers new experiences to things, unless those things are more travel gear? From a good book to the best portable charger, these are the best travel gifts for 2024 to help get through those long flights and enjoy incredible international travel for the adventure lovers in your family.
Lifestraw water bottle
This one always makes my list. Traveling to countries with less than safe water requires bottled water, which is a lot of plastic and not sustainable for the environmentally conscious traveler. A Lifestraw water bottle is the ideal gift for those traveling to these countries, because you can put water from any source in the bottle and the filter will remove any viruses, bacteria, and parasites that might be lurking.
Lifestraw makes a ton of different products depending on your needs, from the simple straw itself that you can bring into the backcountry that allows you to drink straight from a stream to the full filtration system that allows you to filter a lot of water at one time if water sources are scarce.
Garmin Fenix 8
Garmin always produces the best products for those that spend a lot of time outdoors. The Fenix 8 is the latest in their line up and does absolutely everything. It’s even dive rated!! You can get it with solar to allow the battery life to last a long time, you pull up a map to show you the route, and track all your fitness stats. It literally has everything you need. If your favorite person is the type of traveler that likes to climb mountains or hike rugged trails, this watch is the perfect gift.
Want something that does everything, but maybe is a bit more budget friendly? Check out the Garmin Forerunner 965, it has practically all the same bells and whistles as the Fenix 8, but if your not exploring significant outdoor terrain or climbing big mountains, you might want to consider the Forerunner 965 as a great alternative.
Kindle paperwhite
Sometimes you need a good book for long flights, or several books, without needing to pack actual books into your bag (which is what I used to do). It is the perfect gift for the reader in your family. This water resistant kindle has weeks of battery life and I also highly recommend getting a subscription to Kindle Unlimited while you are at it. The newest kindle paperwhite version comes with 3 months of free kindle unlimited and trust me, they will be hooked on the huge library of books to be found there.
International plug
If you are looking for great travel gifts for a secret Santa or stocking stuffer that is a must have but is also maybe under $20, an international plug is a must have. They have a small size, so don’t take up a lot of space, and many have various USB ports as well as USB C for your cell phone and any other device you might need to plug in.
The RXSQUL universal travel adaptor is my top pick, with adaptability for almost every country and multiple ports you can charge multiple things at once.
Best portable charger
If you aren’t in an area with a wall plug, having a portable charging bank is must. Great for travel and taking into the back country it makes a great gift for those who love to camp. In my personal experience the INIU portable charger is the top pick. I have been able to charge my phone up to 4 times on this charger without needing to, you know, recharge the charger. It’s a bit bigger than some, being about the size of your cell phone, but it’s nice a flat and slips nicely into pockets.
Reusable cutlery
As sustainable travelers we try to avoid single use plastic as much as we can and having something that is easily portable that you can take on a trip, hiking, or camping is a must. There are a lot of different options, but my personal favorite is the UCO utility spork. I take these everywhere! They are easy to clean and store and are really durable.
Insta360 flow
This is one of the best gifts for the travel influencer in your family. If you know someone who likes to get great video, this is the perfect gift. Easy to set up, you attach your phone and the gimble allows your phone camera to follow you and get the perfect shot when traveling solo.
It’s the top pick of influencers in 2024.
Beats headphones
The Beats FitPro earbuds are my personal favorite headphone because they tuck into my ears and don’t fall out when I’m running or hiking or just sitting on a plane. It has great noise canceling too for a small ear bud and you can’t beat the sound quality. It’s not like the big headphones, but it is much more portable and way less space occupying. I personally prefer that over the giant headphones. And if you must listen to music while you are in the woods, instead of bringing that speaker that no one else wants to hear, maybe just pop in one of these and keep your music to yourself.
The Azores: A guide for hikers
If you want to help someone have a great travel experience, make sure to get them my new guidebook to the Azores. This chain of 9 islands is the perfect spot for adventurers looking for something a bit more off the grid, with a ton of great hiking, birdwatching, and scuba diving. My new guidebook will help them plan an unforgettable trip.
