The holidays are upon us and as much as I hate to hop on the bandwagon, I want you to know my top gifts for the Adventurer in your life. Especially if that adventurer is you.
These are my top picks for gifts to help you and your family get outside more. I use all of these products myself and absolutely love them.
Gifts for the hiker or backpacker
Deuter backpack
I bought a Deuter backpack while preparing for my Presidential Traverse trek. It has adjustable straps, if you need it to sit higher or lower on your body. There are lots of pockets for your poles, water, sleeping bag, and important items like car keys.
My favorite feature was the small pocket on your shoulder straps for your map and in my case a swiss army knife. Mine is a bit of an older version but still has a lot of the same features.
Garmin Foretrex
When going on a multiday trek it’s a good idea to have a gps to track where you are. I purchased the Garmin Foretrex that I could wear on my wrist.
It has lots of great features, such as putting a point location so if you leave the trail for a bathroom break you can find your way back to your last location.
Life Straw
I love Life Straw. It’s really no secret. They have lots of options for long treks, from their very simple straw to their gravity bag.
The filter takes out viruses, bacteria, parasites and even microplastics without the wait of an iodine tablet. Or the awful taste.
After seeing a demonstration of the power of the life straw I was sold. And if it’s not enough that it provides you with clean water on the trail, they also give water filtration systems to schools in Africa.
High Trek Endurance Edition Hiking Poles
I have been using these very same poles for several years now and I love them. They are collapsible so you can easily carry them when bouldering.
They adjust to various heights and have a comfortable handle. I never hike without them, mainly because I am trying to save my knees and my hands swell without them.
Solomon Trail runners
I bought Solomon trail runners with Gore-Tex for all my hiking needs. They are super comfortable and keep your feet dry on those wetter trails.
The other reason I love them is that I have fallen arches, so I struggle to find shoes that do not have an arch. Solomon really delivered and after going through several other shoes, including Merrill’s’ which were always my go to, I am sold.
Gifts for the snow seeker
Smith I/O Chromopop Goggles
The top of the charts, these goggles complete your snowboard adventure. It comes with two lenses depending on the weather. Smith has also gone a step further and provided a prescription insert for those of us that need glasses.
Smith Vantage Helmet with Mips
Snowboarding isn’t always the safest sport. My first time getting back into snowboarding left me with serious bruising and slight whiplash. At one point I fell backwards and slammed my head into the side of the mountain.
Smith makes a fantastic helmet with great padding, so your head stays not only warm but protected. The MIPS is an extra layer of protection for your head. It’s a helmet I am going to be using for a long time.
Smartwool
Those mountains can get frigid. But you don’t have to be frigid. Smartwool is the perfect base layer for any winter adventure. Its lightweight but incredibly warm.
Gifts for the adventure traveler
Osprey backpack
Looking for a pack that you can take on the plan as a carry on and then become a day pack on your next hike? Osprey makes such a pack. The Osprey Fairpoint has multiple pockets for organizing your things, is big enough to go on a multiday travel adventure or even a day or two on the trail.
Life straw water bottle
I know I already mentioned Life Straw, but they also have a great water bottle that is perfect for travel. It has the filter built in to the bottle itself. So, you can travel to countries with questionable water sources and not worry.
Madera Hammock with mosquito net and straps
I bought the Madera hammock, the accompanying straps and a mosquito net and took it to Panama. It was big, comfortable, and the mosquito net was a must. There is also a pocket to hold your flashlight, book and any other little things you may need in the night.
It reminds me of parachute material but it keeps you relatively dry and comfortable in the night. And as an added bonus, they plant trees for each hammock they sell. Because hammocks need trees!
Gifts from a company that cares
Tentree
I love Tentree. Most of my clothing is from Tentree. Their clothes are soft and comfortable and made from sustainable or recycled materials. Their backpack is made from recycled plastic bottles, some of their shirts are made from hemp and every item sold, ten trees are planted.
Even their packaging is recycled material. It also helps that their clothes are amazing.
Giving the gift of an experience instead of things
I am a big supporter of giving experiences instead of giving things. So, instead of searching for some gift for a loved one just to say you got them something, give them the gift of an adventure.
Intrepid Adventures
Head to Turkey, Jordon, Cambodia, the Galapagos or elsewhere on an adventure of a lifetime. Intrepid is known around the world as the adventure travel company. Their prices are good, their guides are some of the best and the experiences are bucket list items and unforgettable.

UnCruise
Looking for a non-traditional cruise? One that tries to be eco-friendly? Smaller ships on big adventures? I encourage you to check out UnCruise. For more information, check out my review of my recent trip with UnCruise.
CLYMB Adventures
Originally one of the top outdoor gear groups, they have recently partnered with Intrepid to create Clymb Adventures. Take the opportunity to trek up Everest, hike the Inca Trail or pick your style of adventure from women only, hiking and camping, snow adventures, etc. They literally have something for everyone.
How can you make the holidays more about living and less about accumulating unnecessary stuff? The items I include should help you get outside and go on your own adventure. How do you adventure? What is your go to gear? Where will your next adventure take you?
