Top Restaurants in New Hope

After a long hike there is nothing like a cold beer and great restaurants to choose from. One of my favorite towns, with both of those things is New Hope, Pennsylvania. An eclectic town, where everyone is accepted and people from all walks of life mingle on the main street.

Whether its people watching from Havana’s or drinking wine from a tap at Nektar, New Hope has everything you could possibly want in a food scene. These are my top picks for best restaurants in New Hope.

Restaurants with great food

Havana

I am not going to lie this is probably my favorite of all the restaurants listed. Always a party feel and a great place to grab some beers and pub style food while sitting outside watching the world go by. The food is your basic pub food but their burgers are some of the best around and they have award winning chili. I highly recommend the nachos with chili and no cheese. I know, I know but trust me. The cheese they use is more like a queso and it overpowers the beautiful chili.

The have lots of craft beer on tap and if you go on the weekend and eat late you get free entry to whoever is playing that night. We saw Rusted Root there, it’s a great small venue where sometimes you get to see some great bands. Check out their event page to see the line-up.

Nektar

One of the newer restaurants, Nektar is known for its tapas and wine on tap. I ate there shortly after it had opened and was able to score a table right on the water. The atmosphere is relaxed and cozy but the place has gained in popularity and now you pretty much need a reservation to score a table.

But the food is excellent and you can do a wine sampler. If you’re not looking for a big, filling meal, this is a great option.

The Landing Restaurant

Every time I have been to New Hope this place has been on my list, but for whatever reason we always ended up at Havana. One night, after eating elsewhere, we decided to go for it. It was close to closing and it was pretty dark but the location couldn’t be better. It sits directly on the Delaware River, overlooking the bridge that separates Pennsylvania from New Jersey and my two favorite towns of New Hope and Lambertville (also great food options but that’s for another day).

If you go that late and it’s that dark, it’s almost impossible to see the menu. I had to use my phone because the little tea light that was on our table didn’t provide nearly enough light to see what you wanted to order. But the food was amazing. I had the jambalaya and it couldn’t have been more perfect than if I got it in New Orleans.

This is one place I will definitely be going back to, just maybe a little earlier in the evening. And not after I have already eaten a full meal.

Karla’s Restaurant

This place is adorable. I felt like I was eating in a fairytale mushroom house. With it’s green walls and mushroom shape, eclectic little side rooms with whacky designs the experience of being in there was enough.

The food, however, takes it up a notch. Have the short rib risotto. You will not be disappointed. It was perfection. I think my moaning at the food was distracting to the other patrons.

Our table was tucked into the back of the restaurant but there is some nice seating in the open window area that spans the entire height of the building. So, you can eat amazing food, feel like you have been transported into Wonderland and people watch all at the same time.

Logan Inn

The Logan Inn was first established as a tavern by New Hope founder John Wells in 1722. It is the oldest continuously run Inn and the only in-town hostelry in the National Register of Historic Places.

The food here is a bit pricey and the place is a bit fancy so maybe go on a special occasion. Situated right on the main drag, Logan Inn has a big patio that is a little closed off from the people passing by on the street. This gives it a bit more private feel.

The portions aren’t huge but they are tasty and bigger than you would expect for such a pricey place. I highly recommend the octopus. But then again, I always recommend the octopus if it’s on the menu. I don’t know that I have had it at a restaurant where I didn’t think it was good. Well, take that recommendation however you like.

The Salthouse Restaurant

Great for vegetarians and vegans, they have a lot to offer on their menu. We actually chose this place because I had a vegetarian friend visiting at the time. It is also BYOB so you can pick up a nice bottle of wine from the nearby store and either sit outside in their small tables or in the stone building that feels like an open stone home.

We sat upstairs and had the place virtually to ourselves, due to the time of the year, but the food was good. There was lots of healthy variety for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. I left there feeling like I had eaten a healthy meal, which I feel is something that can be hard to find sometimes.

Best places to get a beer

Great Barn Farm to Glass Taproom

This brewpub has been around for a couple of years now. All their beer comes from a brewery close by and they change it up periodically. They have an excellent porter and barrel aged beer that I highly recommend. You can either sit at the bar or take your beer or flight (if you want to try them all) outside and watch the stream below.

You can find this place right next to Nektar, so while your waiting for your table at Nektar you can stop here for a beer or two.

Triumph’s brewery

Triumphs has two locations that I know of, New Hope and Princeton. Both are good and offer similar beer selections. Depending on the time of the year will depend on the beers available. Triumphs in New Hope is located next to the steam train station, with great deck space where you can bring your dog and sit on the patio. They have some comfortable patio furniture or picnic style tables available.

You can also sit inside at the bar, especially if they have live music or if you want to play some pool. It’s a chill hang out spot. The food is only so-so, typically bar food but the beer is good. My top recommendations for beer there are the amber ale and the zitronweizen.

Concluding thoughts

The thing about New Hope is that things are always in flux. There are always new restaurants and stores popping up. Some places disappear just when you thought they would be permanent and one day it’s a specialty popcorn store, the next a tattoo parlor. So, the moral of the story is keep checking back because the food and beer scene just keeps on getting better. It’s the perfect place for the foodie in us all.
